Finally at the Mekong!

We have just arrived at the border town of Chang Kong in far north Thailand and got our first glimpse of the Mekong!! Wahoo...
Me Carrying 65kg of gear! (I lasted about 10m LOL)

Its big, fast and muddy, but beautiful. As we stand on the thai side of the river we see Laos on the far bank, with a large temple standing out amongst a jumble of old and new houses.

Its hot and sunny here now, and we are just about ready to cross the border into Laos and begin paddling.

Duncan surveying the scene

The trip here was long and extremely tiring. We spent 15 hours on the train from Bangkok to Chang Mai and then another 7 hours cramped in a bus heading to the border. Had a sensational Northern thai style lunch with the lovely folks from a local not for profit called Childs Dream who work on educational developement projects in Laos.

Next post will be from Luang Prabang in Laos after five days of paddling.
Wahoo, time to hit the water as Duncan is getting impatient and is about to drag me out of the internet cafe :)
